A Dream SMP folklore zine

ABOUT
Dreamoire is a non-profit digital zine centered around myths and folklore surrounding the world of the Dream SMP. The zine plans to include a short story for each character of the DSMP, stylised as a folk tale and accompanied by an illustration inspired by the text itself. As such, it is more writer-focused than most zines.
Due to the text-heavy nature of the zine, it will be available only as a pdf booklet and epub file, as printing this many pages isn't within our capability. The finished zine will be completely free-of-charge for anyone to enjoy.

Applications are now closed.

All writers will be asked to submit 3 samples of their work. All portfolio samples should total to under 7.5k words and at least one should be a complete, self-contained work. The others may be excerpts of longer works.

WHAT IS THE THEME OF THE ZINE?The theme for this zine is folk tales/myths. I feel like I should mention, though, that the definition of a myth is a story meant to rationalize happenings of people's lives. So, rather than inserting the character into tales that we, people reading this know and understand as myths (like, the tale of Icarus or any stories regarding gods from any cultures), the author is heavily encouraged to make up their own new myths, loosely based off of the character's appearance in the Dream SMP canon!Come up with a story of how Technoblade came to home voices in his head, or how Purpled landed his UFO, or how Tommy won over Drista's favour. Using magical realism, rationalize the strange happenings of the Dream SMP world! All this to say that authors can still take inspiration from pre-existing myths of any culture, as long as they can fit them into the Dream SMP canon narrative :) Since you're free to tell a tale of past, present or future, though, you have pretty much limitless creative freedom anyway.WHAT WILL THE CONTRIBUTORS BE DOING?WRITERS
Each author will be asked to write a short story (2~5k) centred around one character from the ensemble. The text will resemble the format of written myths, legends or folk tales. For this reason, we unfortunately cannot include poem writers.
Authors are free to take up to 3 characters if they so wish (meaning they will have to produce 3 separate stories, each of the aforementioned length). This is determined in the applications. The character will be assigned to the author based on their application. While it is true that the story should centre around that specific character, that doesn't mean authors cannot include other characters from the ensemble in their story. If any author chooses to do so, they will be encouraged to collaborate with their fellow contributors to keep characterisations consistent throughout the whole zine. For example, if the author in charge of Niki chooses to characterise her as a mermaid, all the other stories that include her as a character should have her be a mermaid as well.
(It will be a bit more complex than that, but this is just to give you the rough idea.)
ARTISTS
Each artist will be asked to illustrate one full page that will accompany each character's short story at its end. The drawing should be fully coloured with a background, and should be directly inspired by the text itself. As such, writers and artists will be encouraged to collaborate on designs.
The character will be assigned to the artists based on their application. Artists are free to take up to 3 characters if they so wish (meaning they will have to produce 3 separate full-page pieces). This is determined in the applications.Artists can include as many characters as they want in their piece, as long as their assigned character is present, and as long as the characterisation is consistent throughout the zine.WILL THERE BE MERCHANDISE?We are currently looking into making digital merchandise, mainly phone and desktop wallpapers, but this will largely depend on our artists once the project has truly set off.
